It's hard to believe that after two and a half years of blood, sweat, tears and loosing friends i finally come to realized that there are lesson learnt.
Waited for one year for this graduation ceremony and people were still hooked in their internship last year. Been working in 3 -4 companies in the past year that taught me alot in terms of branding and events.
This is the reason why i started and made the decision to have a Diploma, the feeling of working after Diploma and 2 certs from IACT and AAA. What i learned in college is only a quarter of basics but i what i learned in assignments and projects is more than just teory. Why i chose IACT COLLEGE and not fancy colleges it's because IACT is known for Mass Comm/ Broadcasting and it's small, everybody knows everybody and everybody knows lecturers and admin. It's like one big family.
I came to college with a fresh mind after SPM and i met people who are already living their dreams as a singer or actress or blogger or photographer and how have i not known all these when i growing up? I guess high school didn't expose me to all these things. Then i met a new friend from a videography workshop i attended, she calls bloggers to events and she started inviting me for Henessy and etc and she said "you should start a blog" and so i did. Here is how i started blogging and found something to do in college.
Then i had photography class that taught me motion photo, bokeh and many more, i thought to myself i had my DSLR since i was 16 for BRATS ( star journalism programme) and i hardly used it, so i bought my 50mm lens and started taking photos of my friends. Photography page on the right taskbar.
Then i had advertising class that changed my perspective of looking at bilboard ads, posters, gimmick and started paying attention on watching company ads ( i used to put too many things on my poster coz i love colours but i never known it was TOO MUCH). Love this class!
I used to hate computer graphics where we are required to use photoshop and illustrator, i hate it that my creativity was zero at that time and didnt know what to do or how to do. Then i started paying attention to things i see outside, inspiration and started collecting it, taking pictures and keeping it as my reference. Now, i hardly use photoshop but more to Lightroom!
Towards my last sem, we are required to choose our electives and i chose subjects like events and pr.
For events and corporate comm, we have 3 months to plan out a huge project and students were divided into groups such as creative department,pr department and logistics. You can view it here Articles, I was on the Pr department as i got a few contacts i could use whom i met when i went for blog reviews. During event day, all the hard work of calling media for a media launch or getting people/volunteers are pretty tough as it was a college assignment, some media take it as nothing. During event day, it all comes alive and the directors of each department was telling us what to do and we could see another side of personality from other people. Then, there was evaluation for the whole class to tell what you did good and bad and there were many miscommunication, tears and critics, i took it the hard way but sooner or later i take it as a lesson learnt.
I would say that these two subjects gave me a glance through what is the working world really is but when i started interning in Red Archer's. Nothing is like that, everything is different. That is when i realized, different company has different working ways. What i learned in these two subjects are for corporate or advertising companies, as i worked in Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre as a brand exec, nothing about events or pr department, i realized with money we could just hire a pr company and hire a graphic/ web designer. All i did was just managing social media and some ads and meetings.
After many bad experiences i had, i tried to look for my passion and what i really want to do, so thanks to a friend of mine, she introduced me to Yelp. WHAT IS THAT? It's a review website where you can find whatever you want to find such as tour agents, parks and recreation, Cafe for desserts.. etc.. Basically its your service website when you need it and it;s like Trip Advisor.
I found my love in working at home and having to manage my own time. I love it, it's so flexible!
Many people told me "Congrats on your graduation, welcome to the real working world", i didn't believe that for a second i thought, why do i have to feel the real working world after graduation? Been in the real working world the moment i started my internship for 6 months.
WEDDING!
At the same day, it was our first wedding we attended together and i was in dilemma whether to give Ang Pao or a gift. A chinese - indian wedding! it was so fun!
